First Prayer

This morning Colin asked if he could say our family prayer. He usually says the meal time blessings (a sped-through, often indiscernible imitation of what we would say), but normally wanders around the house during morning prayers, and wants an adult to say his bedtime prayer.

This morning, something was different. As we sat together in the living room, he pronounced he would say the prayer. These beautiful and simple words proceeded:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for this wonderful day.
Thank you for our family - thank you for Mommy, thank you for Daddy, thank you for Caleb and thank you for Colin.
Thank you for my toys.
Please help us all to share our toys and help us to be good.
In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Afterwards, James and I shared a look of amazement and parent-pride. It was the perfect example of how teaching through example is the best method of all. We model the behaviour, and he absorbs it by just being around us. After today I'm worrying just a little less about the heavy responsibility of motherhood.
